Over the years Dave has worn many “hats” for City of Janesville.
In 1974, Dave became a member of the Janesville Fire Department. Shortly after became a patrolman for the Janesville Police Department. That position evolved to the point that he was hired as the first full time employee for the City maintenance department and with that came the position of Police Chief.
In 1979, Dave left the Janesville City Employment to take a fulltime position as Chief of Police for the City of Readlyn, and later was elected to the Janesville City Council. In 1988, Dave was rehired by the city for the position of Public Works Director and held that position until 1999 . During that time, he obtained licensing by the DNR for Wastewater & water treatment and performed all the duties as needed except for law enforcement.
In 1983 Dave. along Wayne Bullis and Scott White co-organized and started the Janesville First Responders. He taught EMS First Responder classes for the volunteers, obtained his certifications of EMT-D & CPR Instructor. During those years he was fortunate to be able to help set up the Plainfield and Readlyn 1st. Responders by teaching their volunteers as well. He served as Director of our Responders for 28 yrs. until his retirement for health reasons August 16, 2011, and a member of the Janesville Fire & Rescue for 35 yrs.

Dave has served with and for 3 Mayors, many different council members and city employees, taken part in many landmark events such as: the closing of the old wagon bridge, building 2 city parks. Building of the new sewer plant, the new water tower and demo of the old, the moving of Highway 218, rebuilding the Janesville City Code book & sub-division ordinance, and the Cedar River flood just to name a few.

So why now? Dave has been a local small business owner/operator for over 35 years and has a working knowledge of building codes, employee/employer relations, employee benefits and policies. Due to some restructuring, cutting back to semi-retirement from his business, He has had more available time to put towards the position of mayor. When Dave does have to work, his office is in his home, right next door to City Hall, and is available as necessary to attend to issues throughout the day.
